For €25.5 Million: Vitor Roque on the Verge of a Move to Palmeiras

Vitor Roque, currently on loan from Barcelona to Real Betis, is close to joining Palmeiras. This would be an expensive deal for the Brazilian club, while also creating space for Iñigo Martínez at Barcelona.

Is His Spanish Adventure Already Over?

The transfer window in Brazil remains open until Friday, and according to Spanish media reports, a major deal is in the works. Palmeiras wants to bring Vitor Roque back to Brazil and is reportedly willing to pay €25.5 million plus bonuses. The club from São Paulo has already reached an agreement with Barcelona.

By selling Vitor Roque, cash-strapped Barcelona would be able to extend Iñigo Martínez’s expiring contract. Due to Financial Fair Play regulations, Barcelona had to wait, even though the player and club had already agreed on terms. However, the deal would now free up salary space, making the defender's registration possible.

The 33-year-old has played a more significant role under Hansi Flick than under his predecessor Xavi. On Tuesday, he scored in the 4-4 draw against Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg. Alongside Robert Lewandowski (36), Iñigo Martínez is the only outfield player over 30 in Barcelona’s squad, which is packed with young talent.

From Benchwarmer to Benchwarmer

Vitor Roque, just 19 years old, initially had a dream start at Barcelona after joining the club for €30 million in January 2024. The forward, who signed a contract until 2031, scored twice in his first five substitute appearances but never managed to secure a regular starting role.

In the summer of 2024, he was loaned to Real Betis, where he has recorded four goals and two assists in 22 league matches. However, he has only featured as a substitute in the last four games, with his last league goal coming in mid-December.

Palmeiras in Talks with Betis

Palmeiras still needs to negotiate with Betis, as the Spanish club seeks financial compensation in addition to offloading Roque’s salary. Barcelona is unwilling to pay for his departure but is open to discussions about forfeiting part of their future resale share of Abde. The defender had transferred from Barcelona to Betis in September 2023.
